Knotweed, Chinese medicine name. Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb.et Zucc. Dried rhizomes and roots. Spring and autumn harvest, remove the roots, wash, cut short or thick slices while fresh, dry. It is distributed in northwest, East, central, South and southwest China. It has the effect of dampness-withdrawing yellow, clearing heat and detoxification, dispersing stasis and relieving pain, relieving cough and eliminating phlegm. It is used for dampness-heat jaundice, lustiness, under the belt, rheumatism and arthralgia, abscess and swelling, fire and water burns, amenorrhea, congest, intumescence, lung heat cough.
Resveratrol and emodin exhibit a wide range of antioxidant properties, such as LDL cholesterol oxidation and lipid peroxidation. Resveratrol has also been shown to help cardiovascular health and promote blood circulation, relieve pain, clear heat and remove dampness, and remove toxins and phlegm.
