Product Description

Product Profile
Lemon balm extract is the whole plant extract of the Lamiaceae plant Lemon balm, and lemon balm oil is its active ingredient. It has sedative, carminative, antispasmodic, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and improvement properties. Blood sugar tolerance levels and many other functions. Moreover, it is widely used in many countries in different industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cosmetics and food.

Pharmacological effects
1. Calming, soothing and resisting anxiety:
Lemon balm extract can be used as a mild sedative or sedative against anxiety. It has the function of improving psychological mood. Studies have shown that it can effectively relieve stress.

2. Improve cognition:
Lemon balm extract also has the function of improving psychological mood and cognitive abilities. These mechanisms are currently believed to be related to muscarinic receptors and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

3. Antibacterial:
The antibacterial properties of lemon balm have also been proven. The ethanol fraction of lemon balm has a very obvious antibacterial and antiseptic effect, and has a synergistic antibacterial effect with sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.

4. Anti-virus:
At the same time, many studies have shown that lemon balm essential oil has antiviral properties, especially against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV1, HSV-2). MazzantiG (2008) used virus binding experiments to find that lemon balm extract does not prevent HSV-2 invades host cells, so this mechanism may occur after the virus enters the host.

5. Anti-tumor, antioxidant:
Lemon balm extract has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of human colon cancer cells, and its volatile oil inhibits a series of human tumor cell lines (A549, MCF-7, Caco-2, HL-60, K562) and mouse cancer cell lines (B16F10). The resistance is very strong. It can scavenge DPPH free radicals and has extremely high antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity is related to phenolic compounds such as citronellal and neral, as well as flavonoids. Lemon balm essential oil can be used as a natural preservative fat-soluble antioxidant for fatty foods and fat-rich foods.

6. Lower blood sugar:
Lemon balm essential oil can significantly reduce blood sugar levels and plays an important role in regulating blood sugar and blood lipids in type 2 diabetic mice. It can enhance blood sugar tolerance in type 2 diabetic patients and significantly increase serum insulin levels. Lemon balm essential oil fights hyperglycemia by promoting the activity of GCK in mouse liver cells and inhibiting the activities of G6Pase and PEPCK in cells. Its hypoglycemic effect may be achieved by enhancing the uptake of glucose by the liver and adipose tissue and inhibiting the gluconeogenesis process in the liver.

7. Anti-fat tissue formation:
Adipose tissue formation requires adipocyte differentiation, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling, and angiogenesis often precedes adipocyte differentiation. Lemon balm fractionated extract can reduce the mRNA levels of angiogenesis factors (VEGFs and FGF-2) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) in adipose tissue, while increasing the angiogenesis inhibitors (TSP-1 and TIMPs). ), has anti-angiogenesis, inhibits matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, and can also inhibit the differentiation of preadipocytes into adipocytes, significantly reducing the increase in adipose tissue in genotyped obese mice, indicating that lemon balm can be used as Angiogenesis inhibitors prevent obesity.

8. Lower blood lipids:
Lemon balm essential oil can significantly reduce blood lipid levels. After oral administration of lemon balm essential oil (12.5 μg/d) to human APOE transgenic mice for 2 weeks, their plasma triglyceride concentrations were significantly reduced compared with the control group. Research has found that oral administration of lemon balm essential oil can change the synthesis of bile acids and cholesterol and the pathways of fatty acid metabolism; treatment of HepG2 cells with lemon balm essential oil induces the synthesis of bile acids and downregulates the nuclear transcription factor SREBP-2. The difference between the essential oil treatment group and the control group In comparison, triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations also decreased significantly (by 400 and 800 mg/L respectively). Blood lipids are regulated through the upregulation of glucose metabolism-related genes SREBP-1C, PPAR-γ, and GLUT4 in the liver and adipose tissue. Therefore, the plasma TAG concentration of the test group (essential oil treatment group) was significantly lower than that of the control group. Research results show that lemon balm essential oil has the effect of regulating blood lipid metabolism.
