Function
1. Sedative and analgesic effects
Perillaldehyde and stigmasterol in perilla leaf extract synergistically have sedative and analgesic activities. Dill celery brain isolated from Perilla perilla can prolong the sleep duration induced by cyclohexenebarbital in a dose-dependent manner within a certain range. At doses less than 10 mg/kg, the activity of dill celery brain is almost equivalent to that of chlorpromazine hydrochloride; at large doses, it can cause hallucinations; at doses up to 718 mg/kg, sleeping mice can be seen to have sustained convulsions.

2. Anti-tumor effect
Perilla alcohol from perilla leaf extract can inhibit the activity of virus-induced carcinogenesis, can significantly inhibit the incidence of breast cancer caused by chemical carcinogens or subcutaneous transplanted tumor strains, reduce the weight and volume of tumors, prolong the time for tumor appearance, and can inhibit Breast cancer growth and rat liver tumor cell growth.

3. Antipyretic effect
Perilla leaf decoction or infusion administered intravenously has a slight antipyretic effect on rabbits with experimental fever caused by typhoid mixed vaccine. This may be related to stimulating sweat gland secretion.

4. Effect on blood sugar

5. Antibacterial and antiviral effects

6. Anti-allergic effect
The anti-allergic substances of perilla leaves are water-soluble, heat-resistant, non-volatile aroma components, and have the ability to directly inhibit the production of TNF by macrophages in vitro. Perilla leaf extract can also inhibit the production of IgE, inhibit the production of DNP-IgE antibodies and total IgE antibodies, but has no effect on DNP-IgG antibodies.

7. Anti-inflammatory effect
Intraperitoneal injection of perilla leaf juice into mice can cause the accumulation of neutrophils in the peritoneal exudate, and neutrophils accounted for (89±6)% of the exudate cells 6 hours after injection. Then we observed the effect of perilla leaf juice on tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and found that perilla leaf juice can reduce the elevated TNF levels in the blood by 50% to 75%. TNF is mainly a cytokine secreted by macrophages and plays an important role in antibody inflammatory response and immune defense. However, when TNF is excessive, it will cause tissue damage, pathological changes and symptoms, such as fever, anemia, hemorrhage, necrosis, and even shock. Therefore, when excess TNF is inhibited, the above pathological changes and symptoms may be weakened or eliminated.

8. Effect on respiratory system
Kechuanbiwen'an, which is mainly composed of perilla leaf extract, is administered through the dispersion of medicinal gas and inhalation, and has a good antitussive and asthmatic effect.
