Macleaya cordata (Willd.) R. Br. Is an eudotyledonous plant of the genus Cordata, growing up to 4 m tall. Stem smooth green; Leaves broadly ovate or nearly round, back more white powder, often reddish; Large panicles polyflorous, terminal and axillary, flower buds rod-like, sepals obovate oblong; Ovary obovate to narrowly obovate, capsule narrowly obovate or oblanceolate; Seeds oval-shaped, with narrow stallion; Flowering occurs from June to November.

Sanguinarine (Sa) is a cationic antibacterial agent derived from the American Sanguinaria Canadensis. Sanguinarine is a  alkaloid. Sanguinarine has a wide range of antimicrobial activities (including aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, pathogenic and non-pathogenic oral bacteria).
