Also known as the wild cherry berry, the ageless berry, the Glandular ridge fruit, English names Aronia and black chokeberry, native to northeastern North America, later introduced to Europe. It can be divided into two varieties: Sorbus nigra (black ageless berry) and Sorbus rudi (red ageless berry). The varieties used in fruit production of Sorbus adenocarpa are mainly from Sorbus melanocarpa.
