Description:

Fucoxanthin is a xanthophyll, with formula C42H58O6. It is found as an accessory pigment in the chloroplasts of brown algae and most other heterokonts, giving them a brown or olive-green color. Fucoxanthin absorbs light primarily in the blue-green to yellow-green part of the visible spectrum, peaking at around 510-525 nm by various estimates and absorbing significantly in the range of 450 to 540 nm. Some metabolic and nutritional studies carried out on rats and mice at Hokkaido University indicate that fucoxanthin promotes fat burning within fat cells in white adipose tissue by increasing the expression of thermogenin.As of 2008, no human studies on fucoxanthin have been published, so it remains to be seen whether it is of any value in human obesity.

Parsley (scientific name: Petroselinum crispum (Mill.) Hill) is a plant of the genus Parsley in the family Umbelliferae, smooth. Root fusiform, sometimes thick. Stems round, slightly grooved, up to 100 cm high, dark green leaves, shiny surface, basal leaves and lower leaves of stems with long stalks, lobes linear-lanceolate, umbels, smooth; involucral bracts linear, Sharp, leathery; small cymes with flowers, small involucral bracts linear or linear subulate, fruit ovate, gray-brown, blooming in June and fruiting in July.

Functions:

5. Parsley appears to enhance the body's absorption of manganese, which is important to help build bone. The absorption appears to be especially enhanced when parsley is eaten in conjunction with copper and zinc rich foods such as shellfish and organically grown whole grains.
