Function and effect
1. Effect on respiratory system
Bitter almond extract has the effect of relaxing bronchial smooth muscle, relieving the spasm of bronchial smooth muscle, relieving cough, asthma and eliminating phlegm. The main mechanism is that amygdalin slowly decomposes in the body to produce trace amounts of hydrocyanic acid, which has a sedative effect on the respiratory center, quieting respiratory movements and achieving antitussive and antiasthmatic effects; it may also be due to the inhibition of low concentrations of hydrocyanic acid. The oxidative metabolism of the carotid body and aortic body causes reflex breathing to deepen, making it easier to discharge phlegm.
2.Analgesic effect
Amygdalin has analgesic effects and is not intolerable.
3. Effect on immune function
Intramuscular injection of amygdalin can promote the proliferation response of mouse spleen cells and promote the proliferation of mitogens on mouse spleen T lymphocytes. Amygdalin can enhance the activity of spleen NK cells in mice.
4. Anti-tumor effect
The crude extract of bitter almond hot water extract has an inhibitory effect on the human cervical cancer cell culture line JIC-26. Ingesting bitter almonds (ad libitum) to mice can inhibit the growth of Ehrlich ascites cancer and prolong survival. Oral or intraperitoneal injection of bitter almond extract into mice can inhibit S180 and liver cancer solid tumors by more than 60%. Amygdalin can also significantly extend the survival time of rats vaccinated with W256 sarcoma.
5. Effect on digestive system
Benzaldehyde, the hydrolyzate of amygdalin, can inhibit the digestive function of pepsin in vitro and in healthy people or patients with ulcers, so it has anti-ulcer effects. Almond fat oil acts as a lubricating laxative in the intestines.
6.Anthelmintic and antibacterial effects
In vitro tests of bitter almond oil have killing effects on roundworms, earthworms, pinworms, hookworms, etc., and can inhibit typhoid and paratyphoid bacilli. Clinical application also shows that it is effective against roundworms, pinworms, and hookworms.
7.Other functions
Intravenous injection of almond decoction into cats can produce significant and long-lasting antihypertensive effects. This product can also dilate coronary arteries and increase coronary blood flow.
