Canavalia gladiata (Jacq.) DC. is a member of the Fabaceae family and is a twining herb. The pods are band-shaped, slightly curved, the seeds are oval or oblong, the seed coat is red or brown, and the hilum is about 3/4 of the seed circumference. It blooms from July to September and bears fruit in October. Distributed in all provinces south of the Yangtze River in China (cultivated)
