Description:
Primroses are biennial herbs. Stem base and roots red, usually pinkish, few plants unpinkish. Ye Jisheng; Petiole 10 -- 15cm long, fleshy when fresh, narrowly winged, much thinner. The cell; Leaf blade ovate to elliptic-ovate, 3 -- 10 x 2 -- 8cm, apex rounded, base cordate or truncate, margin irregularly lobed, lobed serrulate, hairy above, glaucous below. Powdery or sparsely hairy, leaves membranous. Scape 1 or more drawn from leaves, 20 -- 40cm tall, pilose or absent. Hair, powderless or scattered with a little white. Pink, umbels 2-6 whorls, each with 4-20 flowers; Bracts linear or linear-lanceolate, 3-8 chemical bookmm long, abaxially powdered; Pedicels slender, 1.5 -- 4cm long; Calyx broadly campanulate, 3-7mm long, slightly increased when fruit. Large, usually milky pink, 5-lobed, lobes triangular; Corolla high-saucer, pink, pale bluish-purple or subwhite, tube 4 -- 6mm long, eaves 5 -- 15mm in diameter, lobes obcordate, apex 2-lobed; Long style flower: the canister is about as long as the calyx, the stamens are 1.5-2mm away from the base of the canister, the style is about 3mm long, close to the tube mouth; Short style: crown simply longer than calyx, stamens slightly higher than the middle of crown tube, style ca. 1mm. Capsule globose, ca. 3mm in diameter. Flowering February - May. Fruiting March - June.
