Corosolic acid has become a popular product in the market as a new plant medicine and a functional natural health food for the prevention and treatment of obesity and type II diabetes
Product Name: Corosolic Acid
Source: Lagerstroemia speciosa
Appearance: Off-white to white powder
Active ingredients: Anthocyanins, Flavonols, Proanthocyanidins and Saponorins
Product specification: 2%-98%
Detection method HPLC
Extraction Source
Corosolic acid is derived from the extract of Lagerstroemia grandiflora (commonly known as Barnabas, which is abundant in the Philippine Islands).
In vivo and in vitro experimental results show that corosolic acid promotes the absorption and utilization of glucose by cells by stimulating glucose transport, thereby achieving its blood sugar-lowering effect.
The stimulating effect of corosolic acid on glucose transport is similar to that of insulin, therefore, corosolic acid is also called plant insulin.
Physical and chemical properties
Corosolic acid is a white amorphous powder (methanol), soluble in petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, pyridine and other organic solvents, insoluble in water, and soluble in hot ethanol and methanol. Under anhydrous conditions, color reaction will occur when reacting with strong acid (sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, perchloric acid), medium strong acid (trichloroacetic acid) or Lewis acid (zinc chloride, aluminum trichloride, antimony trichloride) Or fluorescent.
Corosolic acid is an α-aromatic resin alcohol type or ursine type pentacyclic triterpenoid compound, and its basic skeleton is the five-ring mother core of polyhydropine.
Corosolic acid can exist freely in plants or in the form of saponins. In plants, it often coexists with its isomer maslinic acid (2α-hydroxyoleanolic acid). It has similar structure and chemical properties and is difficult to separate.
This natural product is currently on the market as a nutritional supplement in the United States. It is also undergoing Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of diabetes and will be certified by the FDA in the near future. Compared with insulin injection, its effect in treating diabetes has the advantages of significant oral effect, less toxic and side effects, easy use, etc., and its effect is equivalent to that of insulin injection.
Functions of corosolic acid
1. It can regulate the levels of insulin and blood sugar in the body, and has an obvious tendency to lose weight. The process is relatively slow and does not require dieting. Therefore it can be used for weight loss.
2. This product has significant hypoglycemic effect.
3. It has a significant inhibitory effect on inflammatory reactions, and its anti-inflammatory effect is stronger than that of commercially available anti-inflammatory drugs such as indomethacin.
4. It has an inhibitory effect on the growth of various tumor cells and has broad prospects in this regard.
