Rhynchophylline is an indole derivative extracted from the stems and hooks of the Rubiaceae plant Uncaria, colorless needle-like crystals.

Soluble in ethanol, chloroform, acetone, slightly soluble in ether, almost insoluble in petroleum ether. Rhynchophylline has the usual chemical properties of alkaloids in the Chemicalbook, and can react with common alkaloid reagents. When it meets potassium dichromate concentrated sulfuric acid test solution, it will appear orange and gradually turn yellow-green.
