Description The Chinese goldthread (Coptis chinensis) is a species of goldthread native to China. The rhizomes of Coptis chinensis are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and serve as a source for the isoquinoline alkaloids berberine, palmatine, hydrastine, and coptisine among others. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine. Coptis Root Extract has been used to treat digestive dysfunction, disorientation, dysentery, high fever, inflammation of the mouth, insomnia, irritability, ear infections and heart palpitations. Traditional Chinese herbalists use Coptis to treat gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, hypertension, and bacterial infections.
