Product Profile
Polygala extract is extracted from the dried roots of the Polygalaceae plant Polygalate nuifolia Willd. or Polygala asilifolia L., and mainly contains compounds such as saponins and oligosaccharide esters. It has various biological activities such as nootropic, sedative and hypnotic, anti-depressant, anti-oxidant and anti-aging, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic, antitussive and expectorant.

Function
1. Effect on the central nervous system
Extracts of Polygala root bark, Polygala root whole root and root core can induce mice treated with subthreshold hypnotic dose of barbiturate sodium to fall asleep.
2. Expectorant effect
Polygala saponins can stimulate the gastric mucosa and cause mild nausea, thus reflexively increasing bronchial secretion and having an expectorant effect.
3. Antibacterial effect
Polygala extract has an inhibitory effect on pneumococci. Ethanol infusion has a significant inhibitory effect on Gram-positive bacteria, Shigella dysenteriae, Typhoid bacilli, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
5. Excitatory effect on the uterus
The ethanol-precipitated 100% injection of polygala decoction has a strong stimulating effect on the isolated non-pregnant uterus of rats and mice. Polygala extract can strengthen the contraction of pregnant and non-pregnant uterus in vitro and in vivo in guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs. It also has a significant stimulating effect on the uterus of pregnant dogs.
6. Inhibition of cAMP phosphodiesterase
Polygala water extract, chloroform and n-butanol soluble or insoluble parts of methanol extract, and polygala saponins B, E, F, and G all have certain inhibitory effects on cAMP phosphodiesterase.
7. Anti-mutation and anti-cancer effects
Polygala aqueous extract has a significant inhibitory effect on the number of reversion colonies induced by aflatoxin B1 and the number of reversion colonies of TA98 strain, but has no inhibitory effect on TA100 strain, indicating that it only acts as a factor against base substitution mutations. Polygala extract can inhibit P388 lymphocytic leukemia in mice.
8. Anti-cancer effect
Polygala extract can inhibit P388 lymphocytic leukemia in mice. Polygala water-soluble extract has anti-mutagenic effects.
9.Other functions
Polygala extract contains saponins, which have the effect of dissolving red blood cells. Polygala flesh (skin) has a stronger hemolytic effect than polygala heart. Polygala methanol infusion has diuretic and edema-inhibiting effects on rats with edema caused by jugular vein ligation.
