Hypericum perforatum (scientific name: Hypericum perforatum L.) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Hypericum in the family Garcinia, up to 10 cm high, and glabrous as a whole.
Distributed in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Guizhou in China. Southern Europe, Cyprus, Northwest Africa, Near East, Central Asia, India to Mongolia and Russia are also distributed. It grows on hillsides, roadsides, grasslands, forests and riversides at an altitude of 500-2100 meters.
Hypericum perforatum tastes bitter, pungent, and flat in nature, can clear away heat and detoxify, regulate menstruation and stop bleeding.
