Ilex pubescens (scientific name: Ilex pubescens Hook. et Arn.) is a plant of the genus Ilex in the Ilex family. Evergreen shrubs or small trees, 3-4 meters high; branchlets slender, nearly quadrangular, taupe, densely hirsute, with longitudinal ridges; terminal buds are usually stunted or absent. The leaves are born on 1-2 year old branches, the leaves are papery or membranous, elliptic or long ovate. Inflorescences clustered in leaf axils of 1-2-year-old branches, densely hirsute. Male inflorescences: individual branches of clusters in 1- or 3-flowered cymes. Fruit spherical, about 4 mm in diameter, red when ripe, endocarp leathery or nearly woody. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is August-November.
Distributed in Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Hong Kong, Guangxi and Guizhou in China. Growing in evergreen broad-leaved forests or forest margins, bushes, streamsides, and roadsides at an altitude (60-) 100-1000 meters.
