Extraction Source
Menthol is extracted from the leaves and stems of peppermint. It is a white crystal and is the main component of peppermint and peppermint essential oils. Menthol generally has two isomers (D-type and L-type), and natural menthol is mainly L-isomer (L-menthol), where menthol generally refers to racemic menthol (DL-menthol ). Menthol can be used as a flavoring agent in toothpaste, perfume, beverage and candy. Its esters are also used in fragrances.

Efficacy and function
Menthol has antipruritic, analgesic, antiseptic, stimulating, anesthetic, cooling and anti-inflammatory effects, and can treat headaches, neuralgia, itching and respiratory inflammation, atrophic rhinitis, hoarseness, etc. It is widely used as flavoring agent for cigarettes, cosmetics, toothpaste, perfume, toilet water, beverages and candies, etc.
Application
1.Applied in food field, often used as additives, with distinct fragrance smell, menthol can promote digestion and increase appetite.
2.Applied in daily necessities field, menthol can be added into a large amount of oral cleaning products, such as dentifrices, mouthwash and tooth powder.
3.Applied in pharmaceutical field, because menthol has the function of inhibition and paralysis to sensory nerve endings, it can be used as counter irritant.
