Schisandra chinensis is the dry mature fruit of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. Known as "Northern Schisandra".

The fruits are picked when they are ripe in autumn, and dried in the sun or steamed to remove the stems and impurities. Tang et al.'s "Xinxiu Materia Medica" contains "the skin and flesh of the five flavors are sweet and sour, the core is hard, and they all have a salty taste", so it has the name of Schisandra. Schisandra is divided into two types: southern and northern.
